Celebrating Moms Making Waves in Their Industries

Being a mom is basically the equivalent of running a small village, alone... Well, we've been told that's what it seems like at times.

So, while every single day we're grateful and inspired and in awe of all that those powerful women do, today, especially, we're celebrating them in a major way. It's true that #NotAllHerosWearCapes, huh? We've curated a short list of some kickass mamas making waves and moving mountains in their respective fields:

Founded by a tag-team of two mothers, Marilee and Jessica, Gathre was the byproduct of a picnic with their kiddos one summer's day. The two, who had met at a girls night many moons ago, realized that no product existed to meet all their needs. Hence, Gathre was born, and the first-ever waterproof, spill-proof, mutli-use, kid-friendly play mats made of sustainable "leather." More recently, Gathre has also launched yoga mats (swoon) that are also made with alternative, sustainable materials, for everyone in the family.

READ: Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

One of the most renowned females in tech, Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg, is an advocate for equality in the workplace. Her 2013 bestselling book Lean In laid out the ways women should take charge of their careers and their home lives, particularly in regard to relationships and parenting. Written with both humor and wisdom, Sandberg’s book is an inspiring call to action and a blueprint for individual growth. Lean In has helped change the conversation from what women can’t do to what they can, because, really... we can do anything.

LISTEN: Jill Andrews

Jill began writing songs at age 19 and was a singer/songwriter well before she became a mother. After giving birth, she found it inspiring (but very different) to continue playing music. Having a child gave her a new sense of respect for her musical career, as it wasn’t just about providing for herself anymore. Jill’s music is a mix of acoustic, boho/indie folk, and her lyrics are beautiful words from her journals. We’re currently obsessed with her rendition of Turn Around (you might remember it from Grey’s Anatomy).

FOLLOW: Kenzie, @yogoskenz

Arguably my favorite account to follow on Instagram for a number of reasons. Not only is Kenzie a mom of three (and she's so adorable with her daughter Lola), but she's a former athlete and self-taught yogi. She's a super badass proving the power of an at-home yoga practice, while also making time for some of the most important things in life: family, faith, food, and movement. For serious inspiration and #MomGoals, check out Kenzie's Instagram!
